Kayaking - Experience the Fortymile River from a kayak. The Outpost rents Perception
kayaks, which turn very quickly and easily and have good tracking as well as being quite stable
for beginner use. We provide different length trips starting with a peaceful 2-hour float of the
Mosquito Fork and upper South Fork. Rentals start at $30 for ½ day. The Chicken Gold Camp also
has cabin rentals available if you are in need of relaxing accommodations before or after your
trip.
Gold Panning - Gold panning is provided at comfortable, stand-up troughs. The pay-dirt is
taken directly from our mining operation, so any size nugget is possible and yours to keep. We
have been told many times that we offer the best deal in Alaska - 24 hours of panning (think "Midnight Sun"!) is only $10.00.
Recreational Mining - As well as the gold panning right at the park, more elaborate recreational gold mining with gold pans, metal
detectors, hand sluices, high bankers or small suction dredges is also available at one of our nearby claims.
Music - The annual “Chickenstock” music festival is held the 2nd week of June (in 2008 that's June 14th - click here for more information).
Other impromptu gatherings are held on the Outpost deck in the evenings.
Day Trips - A day trip to Eagle is a great adventure with the opportunity to see the mighty
Yukon, enjoy magnificent scenery and experience life in a remote Alaskan village. Or a trip over
the “Top of the World” to Dawson City and back offers many more opportunities. Either trip can
be taken without driving your camper over gravel roads by returning to Chicken.
Other - Local hiking trails and ATV trails provide access to historical sites, wildlife
viewing opportunities and spectacular vistas, more prospecting and great hunting. Fishing is accessible nearby. Several historical
tours are available including the Pedro Dredge.
